Hi, I´m definitely not an expert but I was really hesitant to use any sort of flea medication on my kittens cuz I´d read so many warnings against doing that.

Atticus was a stray and came to me with fleas. All I did was give him a bath a couple of times with warm water and gentle baby soap. Then I used a flea comb and manually took out fleas when his fur was wet. I also washed everything he´d been in contact with and vacuumed. His fleas were gone in about a week and a half. It seems labour intensive I know, but I really didn´t want to take a chance with anything that could harm him.

I would just comb them with a very fine tooth comb.

I would treat the environment. Spray the house - without the kitten being there - each carpet and then vaccuum really well. Wash all the bedding. You can use frontline from 8 weeks but I would comb and kill any you find and treat all the other cat as well. Your other cat may be bringing them in from the grass outside so it will take time to reduce their number. Good luck!

I constantly foster rescued kittens and although many peolpe don´t like frontline, it is the only thing I use for fleas. In South Africa we have a special forntline spray specifically formulated for kittens 8 weeks and older. I always use it and my kittens are always free from fleas and ticks. I also buy a plug in product from a supermarket called "die flea" which is safe to use even with animals in the house.

I´m honestly not sure what you should use (fleas aren´t a big problem here) but I´ve read what you shouldn´t use - tea tree oil (and other "natural" oils and remedies) that can be safe for older cats are toxic on kittens. They´re little systems are too fragile to safely absorb such strong remedies. I´d stick with the bath.fine comb suggestion, as well as ridding your house of them. I used a flea powder on my carpet in Toronto - sprinkle it heavily, wait a few hours, vaccuum it up. I repeated that every few days for a week and it seemed to work. Goes without saying that your kitten will need to be kept far away from any cleaning/defleaing product you use on your carpet or furniture. Anything you can use to keep it flea free (I like the plug in product idea) would also be good.

I´m agree with MichyD.
I had preparation containing oils essential with tea tree, niaouli and water (all simply).
Regularly, I rub my cats with that : it is 100% naturalness (no risk - especially for the kittens) and that functions.

(I had precisely posted - months ago - a thread about this subject)

Fleas don´t like eucalyptus so I made a solution with eucalyptus oil and water, put it in a spray bottle and spray your hands, then smooth all over the kitten from head to tail. It´s natural, no chemicals and perfectly safe. Of course, if your kitten does get fleas, then it´s highly likely they will get on bedding and furniture, so a good spray of the eucalyptus solution over where the cat sleeps is a good idea!

I do a lot of work in the health and and safety field. "Natural" products are much in vogue at the but be very careful with them. Eucalyptus oil is very strong in concentration as are tea tree and neroli oils, and can be poisonous. Use very very little of these oils in the water solution for a kitten - literally only a drop or two in a litre of water. Kittens have died from ingesting even small amounts of these oils. Even adult cats can be overexposed and many of these remedies can have serious effects on the kidneys and liver. As far as "natural" goes, limonene (for example) is the "natural" ingredient in many citrus cleaners and it´s derived from citrus skins. It´s actually natures strongest pesticide and is toxic even to people when concentrated. Just beware that "natural" doesn´t always mean "safe", especially when a kitten in involved.
