Because of the great success of the first thread

Getting to know you Pt1

I figured it be a good idea to start a new one for any new comers to UC

So.. Tell us about yourselves or update us on any new news!

27.July 2008 11:38

I figured I might as well update by telling people my most recent and exciting news!

My husband and I managed to get our hands on a house!
We move in next week! It´s so exciting! It´s our first place as a married couple

29.July 2008 05:05

That´s such good news about the house, JoviaDea - congratulations!! Could you give us an update on Bart please? How is he coping with the winter weather and his health problems? Now you´ll have a big place and he should be happy to spend the cold nights indoors.

Pt 2... I missed Pt 1 lol

Lets see... My name is Angie, I´m 36 (I think lol) Married to the love of my life!!!! He was my childhood sweetheart and from the moment we met (I was 12yrs old he was 13yrs old) we just clicked and could never leave each other alone. Although when we were in our late teens (19 and 20) we both messed up and married other people. We both knew what we did was wrong but it took us 16yrs to correct it and we´re back together and happy like we were ment to be, We´re now together almost 5yrs and married 3yrs. I have three children ages 18, 17 and 17 and yes they are twins (boy and girl) He has two children, ages 13 and 16 both boys. I´m from Pennsylvania and he is from Delaware. For those who don´t know Delaware is the first state in the United States and they are VERY proud of it lol... We are living in Pennsylvania at the moment but getting ready to move back to Delaware. I miss it and can´t wait to go back. It´s going to be hard with my oldest daughter staying in Pennsylvania, but she´s growing so much and has her own life and no matter where mom is she´s always there..... But, it´s going to be very hard. She just graduated this year and starts college and all her friends are here and she just won´t leave, not yet... But, her boyfriend of almost 3yrs loves it down where we are moving... so maybe one day he´ll get her down there lol. I miss living in Delaware, it´s soooo pretty and just a totally different life style then here at home where I´m from. Lets see, I am a chronic migraine sufferer, at the moment I take 3 medications a day to keep the pain away. It´s a pain in the behind but.... it´s life. I also deal with Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome which is like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome that people get in their wrists, But TTS is in the ankles. I have it in both ankles/legs and have been dealing with that for about 15yrs. Walking is getting harder and harder. Between both those problems I tend to rely on my kitties a lot. When I don´t feel good because of pain or just feeling icky from medication they are my buddies... They jump right in bed with me and cuddle up when they know mommy don´t feel good. Booboo has been my buddy since day one and he can sence when I don´t feel good cause he´ll follow me everywhere lol... I love him so much, he´s such a good boy. Toma although he´s a kitten he is a real cuddle bug and LOVES to sleep with me. It took him awhile to realize beds are for sleeping not chasing mommys feet and biting them lol I just started a new medication today and not feeling so hot, so I have kitties following me and trying to lay with me in bed before I even get in there! Ugh.... Anyhow, that´s me..... Please forgive any major typo´s or goofs... meds have a way of taking over your mind sometimes lol

I´m like Angielyn and also missed Pt 1 which isn´t suprising considering the amount of problems that my computer has been giving me and having to share the remaining computer with hubby who uses it to study etc, doesn´t give me much time to be able to be on the site very often. Maybe, one fine day I will be able to get my computer sorted out once and for all..LOL. Anyways, my name is Laura and I have one daughter from my first marriage but, unfortunately so far, none from my second marriage. I was born in Italy but at the age of 6 moved to the then Rhodesia and now is known as Zimbabwe, which I think most people have heard about by now considering how many times CNN have had it on the news because of its unfair elections, political violence etc. Whilst there I became an ardent lover of Abyssinian cats and even went into breeding them for a short while until the economic situation just made it all very unviable to do so. My parents returned to Italy 1995 and I remained there until my second marriage in 2006. I have been in Italy now for 2 years and though starting to adjust to this way of life, am still missing Africa in a big way. I have one kitty that my hubby got for me as a surprise because I was convinced that we weren´t allowed pets in our building but unbeknownst to me, hubby went and spoke to the landlord who said that there was no problem, so one Saturday morning I was bustled into the car and taken back to the pet shop where, the previous day, we had seen three adorable kittens that were being given away to good homes, and told to choose one. Because I am a lover of the "underdog" as it were, I chose the little girl because she had seemed the more timid and probably bullied one of the litter. As it turned out, she was indeed very very nervy and timid and we practically didn´t see her for the first couple of days when we got her home as she made the underneath of the sofa her home and only came out to use the sandbox (whew!!) and to eat. Eventually with a lot of patience she came out of her shell and has developed a lovely character though still very nervy of strangers and usually hides when we have visitors though, if they stay long enough, her curiosity gets the better of her and she just has to come out and investigate. As I work alternate shifts (one week morning and one week afternoon) I don´t see her very often because now that she has discovered the great outdoors she spends her day exploring and given the chance she would be outside at night as well but seeing as I have a strict rule about that, she doesn´t get to do that very often unless she manages to sneak out especially when I am not around. On the days that I am at home the whole day, she seems to sense this and spends most of her time with me which is great as she is a great lifter of spirits and knows how to make me laugh even when I don´t really want to. Getting back to me, I work in a factory that makes wet wipes, airplane catering packs and cleaning accessories for spectacles. I didn´t know there were so many different types of wet wipes until I went to work there I also run a small cleaning agency which I took over somebody going into liquidation. So, with trying to go to work, run a company and a home, I have very little time on my hands for much else. Okay so that´s me...whose next??

Where do I start ............... My name is Diane Cook I am 39 years old and a nurse, I am married to Benjamin also 39, we have been married for 10 years and have a gorgeous seven year old daughter called Tracy (who has been bugging us for a little brother or sister and I found out last week that I am pregnant!! baby due in February - we haven´t told Tracy yet, I want to wait until my second trimester )

We live in Hamilton New Zealand - my husband is originally from the UK but his family moved here 20 years ago. He is a doctor (very cliche I know!! ). We are both animal lovers and would love to get a dog as well as our beautiful cat Smudge but it would be impractical with our schedules (I not sure how I managed the whole pregnancy thing to be honest!!! We are nearly always on opposite shifts!! ) We plan to get 1 or 2 dogs and a few more cats later on in life

We have done a lot of traveling but so far have not made it to the US or Canada but are keen to make it there one day. I do a lot of reading well used to before I found UC!!! My favorite authors are Robin Cook and Patricia Cornwell. I also love to cook when I have time and so does Ben - we love NZ for the BBQ´s in Summer and enjoy dinner parties in winter.

I think that´s all for now Diane

29.July 2008 17:33

I think I did write about myself in the first thread but due to my ‘advanced’ age the memory is fading slightly!!
I am going to be 55 in Sept - but unless I avoid a mirror I can pretend I am still 20 and I don’t think I will ever ‘grow up’ - but have ‘expanded’ over the years and some of my ‘bits’ have gone south and look a bit droopy. But hey can disguise that with clever dressing!
I am married to Michael (Mickey) and we have managed to stay best friends and lovers for 35 years without killing each other. We live in George, a town that lies on the foothills of the great Outeniqua Mountains in the Western Cape - South Africa. We have two children Michele 28 and Tristan 21. Michele is married to Stefan (a better son-in-law I could not have picked myself!) and she’s a forensic pathologist in Cape Town. Tristan is studying electronic engineering at Stellenbosch Uni. I missed the kids very much when they left home, and had empty nest syndrome for a while. But luckily that soon passed and I have found out that I am now free at last to do what I want, how and when I want without having to wonder “what about the kids!” – It’s a blast!! They do come and visit us often - which is great.
I work as a property consultant at a huge well known golfing estate, and am loving it.
I am an avid computer gamer and can get lost in the word of the Sims or any of the other adventure games – can sit and play for absolute hours – days even!!
I love reading, and when I get time gardening, and of course shopping!! Oh and I love fun and laughter around me and think a good sense of humor is a good thing to have.
Mickey and I go to the cinema at least once a week – think I am addicted to popcorn – and we also make a point of going out for a romantic meal at least once a month.
I also love going for a glass of wine and a few laughs after work with my girlfriends from work – yes we are friends as well as colleges and that is so great!
We are both animal lovers and Tigger, being the only pet at home now, is basking in all the attention he gets – is spoilt rotten. After both our beloved dogs died last year we would love to get a new puppy but have to run that one passed Tigger first.
Oh and I almost forgot - am a complete and hopeless UC addict!

29.July 2008 17:41

I think part one was either before I joined or more likely before I knew what I was doing!!! I am 48 happily single and have lived in NZ for the last 18 years. My entire family live in the UK and I think that is why we are still so close!! We talk on the phone all the time. I go back to the UK every couple of years or so the last time being for Christmas but I cannot see myself ever living over there again.

I am a NZ citizen now, I am a registered nurse and work in the disability sector working in a forensic inpatient unit. I have worked with people with Intellectual Disability for over 30 years and still love it. I am also an animal lover (all animals) but especially cats, you have met my babies I totally spoils my cats and admit they are my life. They are my sanity in this unstable world. They make me smile and it is impossible to feel down when i am around them.

I love to cook and have an older brother who is a chef - my particular specialty is desserts and I usually get roped into making cheesecake / trifle and or mousse every time we have a works function!!

I have never married but have been engeged 4 times! not sure wether its me who is to stuck in my ways or what but like I said at the begining I am happily single. I enjoy reading and movies. I also enjoy driving and am taking my parents and sister & brother in law on a 23 day tour of the South Island over Christmas this year.

I am really enjoying United cats and meeting (virtually anyway) all you lovely people and your gorgeous cats, I think it´s neat that we can cross all cultural and national boundries and have this beautiful thing in common. Thanks for listening,

Carole aka Ebigum

Oooh! When I come to New Zealand I´ll have to visit you and let you cook for me

I missed the first one too..Wow..I´ve been on UC since April 08, but it feels like I´m here so long. Kinda like, you just met a person and feels like u´ve known them for years.

I hope its not too late to introduce myself.

Hello everyone, I m Elaine Neo, 23 yr old, still in university, final year majoring in Real Estate, and I m a Chinese Singaporean. I used to like dogs more, but since I got in touch with cats many years back, I´ve fell in love with cats, so much so that my friends are calling me names like, Ms Cat, Cat-Spirit, and stuff.

I cooking, animals. Im picking up some sports like blading and rock climbin lately. I cant stand animals haters. My fave quote, "You have the right to choose to hate animals, and I have the right to choose to hate you".

I m born and bred in Singapore, a little island.Wonder if everyone knows about Singapore, and I Singapore. I´ve only been to mostly Asian countries like Thailand, Malaysia,Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, so I´ve never seen any cats from places like Europe, Australia, US, thus, being able to meet cats from all over the world here in UC is really an eye-opener and fun experience for me.

Singapore is an interesting place, cos here, in a single place, you can find western food, malay food, chinese food, japanese food, vietnamese food, thai-food, korean delicacy etc. And you would most likely know who are local when they speak with a mixture of chinese with english(and dialect). Singapore is so small, there is no such things as which state, we are a whole, small island.

However, animal laws and rules aint very developed here, so I m abit sad about it. Especially cat-lovers, there aint as many cat-lovers as dog-lovers here. I only got one other friend who owns cats...(the rest have dogs) so I do feel lonely.

Anyone who is visiting Singapore can come and find me, I can be your tour guide, and bring hopefully (if I can train my cats on leash), bring my cats to say HELLO~

What happened to Getting to Know you Part 1? I don´t remember if I wrote in there or not. My name is Elizabeth Ann (I go by Ann) Scarborough. I´m 61 and am currently employed by three cats as their primary can opener, petter, and general woman of all work. When they can spare me, I work at my food-providing activity, which is writing fiction. I´ve made my living (such as it is) as a science fiction/fantasy writer full time for the last 20 years and part time while going to school (BA in History at University of Alaska) and working for ten years prior. I was married once and didn´t care for it. I now live in Washington State--for those of you not familiar with the US, this is not the capitol. home of scalliwags and crooks, but the beautiful upper left hand corner of the continental US,just south of the border or a fairly quick ferry ride from British Columbia, Canada. We live on the outskirts of a National Forest and Park and our little historic Victorian seaport town is full of fun wildlife--deer, raccoons, possums, eagles, owls, sea and estuarial otters in the water,as well as herons, occasionally a seal, orcas and once a mom and baby gray whale. Since I am originally from Kansas City, KS I find the sea life pretty fascinating.
I was earlier in my life a registered nurse and served as an Army Nurse in Vietnam during the war. More than half of my patients most of the time were Vietnamese civilians who were caught in the crossfire. One of the things my patients taught me was Vietnamese names for all of the different kinds of cats--lions, tigers etc. Your basic cat is a "mao" and after that there´s a suffix--now I can´t remember which is which but I think a lion is "mao tran" and a tiger "mao bey."
I´ve written by now 38 books--15 with my friend Anne McCaffrey. We recently sold a two book (so far) series about remarkable space ships´ cats and when the books are named and closer to publication, I intend to buy or get the publisher to buy an ad for them here on UCats. I have also written a cat mystery I´m still hoping to sell. My books are usually a bit quirky, many of them have cats and other characters, and often have a lot of humor in them.
And yes, my cats are models for a lot of my cat characters, as are friends´ cats. The hero of my mystery looks like Kittibits did as a kitten but his purrsonality is Cisco´s. Cause if a mystery happened around Kittibits, he´d be under the bed. Pancho was too busy eating to be in the book. Ann aka darcyd

I like this thread My name is Shivonne, I´m 27 and work as a project administrator and freelance writer. I live in the beautiful, if troubled, tropical country of Trinidad and Tobago.

I´m a new cat owner and quite smitten. Inca is 5 months old and Atticus is 3 months old and they both live with me in my apartment. One day I´d like to have enough space for them to run around outdoors safely and maybe get some more kittie and doggie companions. For now I try to do the best I can for them by feeding them well and giving them lots of love and play time in between my busy schedule. And they pay me back with snuggles and happy moments.

That´s such good news about the house, JoviaDea - congratulations!! Could you give us an update on Bart please? How is he coping with the winter weather and his health problems? Now you´ll have a big place and he should be happy to spend the cold nights indoors.
Bart has started to come indoors more, because winter has finally hit its coldest temperature. He spends the ENTIRE night now, and does not like going outside at night. Which is good news
He however (being an outdoor cat) has forgotten what the use of the kitty litter is, and has been going to the bathroom on the floor and has strategically found hidden places to do it in too. Leaving my mother very angry and frustrated, because theres a bad smell in the house and she has NO clue where it´s coming from hehe.
Bart is still very active, and looks very good. Still very affectionate and is eating very well.
But I have decided to leave him here with my mother because, he wont like the move, he may stress himself out over this, mainly cause he hates change alot more then regular cats. It takes him the longest to adjust. And apparently the move to this house, really threw him. So I have decided he should remain here, where he is gaurenteed a longer life then at my new place.
Our new place is generally right next to a main road. And as road savvy as Bart is, I still don´t trust the hoones at night.

Singapore is an interesting place, cos here, in a single place, you can find western food, malay food, chinese food, japanese food, vietnamese food, thai-food, korean delicacy etc. And you would most likely know who are local when they speak with a mixture of chinese with english(and dialect). I actually have an odd question.
I remember having a discussion with someone who came from China, he said that the meals we have here in Australia in our Asian resturants don´t even exist in China. I was wondering if its like there in Singapore?

Hi everyone Im Marissa, 21 from Australia. I live with my boyfriend of 3 years and our 4 precious children (feline children) I work at a vet clinic which I love and have learnt so much about animals especially cats.
I am also a full time student doing a bachelor of Nursing which I love and I cant wait to finish! Im hoping to be a mental health nurse when I do finish.
Apart from my beautiful little family I love latin dancing, all animals especially Orca whales and cats of course, kareoke, movies, music and shopping. I also love to read and both Michael and I lay in bed at night for at leaast an hour reading before we go to sleep
I hate animal cruelty more than anything in the world and I wish I could do more!
I am vegetarian but I would never expect my cats to be as I would consider that cruel.
I love buying my cats lots of toys, presents, treats and cute collars and beds. I spend as much time as possible playing with them.
I love this site as I have learnt so much and love showing off my babies. Everyone here is absolutely lovely!
Hmm well that is all for now! It was great to read everyone elses getting to know you.
~Marissa~

Hello everyone. This is a great way to get to know each other. So here it goes about me....

My name is Georgia, I am 37 and I´m from Greece. I think I´m the only Greek here. I am newly-wed, it´s only been a month. Well, actually this is my second marriage, the first didn´t go quite well and I was afraid to commit for 9 years after that, well fortunately not any more. I have no children yet but we have just started trying so wish me luck.

I have had my 2 cats for the last 5-6 years and I absolutely love them. I love all cats and lately I started getting to like dogs and understand dog persons, since my parents adopted a stray one, called Foxie. He has a pequliar way of showing his affection, he is erected each time he sees me and sometimes he pees a little as well.

I am a teacher at secondary education, I teach english mainly and history when needed. It´s a hard job but the good thing is the vaccations. My summer holidays last 2 whole months and of course we also have 15 days at Christmas and 15 more at Easter.

I love eating, drinking, dancing and watching movies. I try to exercise whenever possible and at present I do aqua-aerobics, which is really fun. I like taking pictures too, that´s why I started a Photoblog which eventually attracted more members. If you want you can have a look here

Well, that´s all for now, I hope to make many new friends here, I know for sure that animal lovers are good persons. Say "puuurrrrr" to all kittens from me. I´ve got to go.

Cat is called Mao in chinese too. Thus, maomao.
your books sure sound very interesting. I everything about cats. I m sure to enjoy your book.Let me just go and find them in my local bookstore now.

Oh yes, indeed, some dishes we have here in Singapore is like adopted or changed to local likings, so some chinese food we have dont exist in China too. But overall, its still a food haven.

Congratulations!!!

4.August 2008 13:37

Well, apparently I have never introduced myself so far, so here goes....
My name is Anja, I am Dutch, married, no children and five cats, who, indeed ARE my children. I only just said goodbye to my beloved tortie Steffie, who lived to be 18 years and 4 months. My nickname Jiskefet comes from my ginger tom, who got killed just over 2 years ago by running into the side of a car. Jiskefet was very special, he was a wild kitten who turned into my greatest admirer. That cat adored me, and I adored him. Jiskefet is Frisian for dustbin, and the name suited him, as he would eat just anything, and gobble it up faster than you could give it to him. He would start eating while standing on his hind legs and by the time you´d put the plate down, it would be empty.

I was born and raised in Delft (indeed, the town where the famous blue and white porcelain comes from), and nowadays I live in Dordrecht, a beautiful old town to the south-east of Rotterdam.

About the Chinese food issue: over here, quite a lot of ´Chinese´ food is in fact Indonesian, though there is a tendency towards more authentic recepies, nowadays. We can now order Cantonese, Sichuan, tippan, dim sum and other (allegedly) authentic menus. But I do like to go to a restaurant where the Chinese, themselves, will eat, too.

But then I love oriental food and exotic food in general.

4.August 2008 16:01

Thankyou nosy parker I even had my cats surrounding me when it happened
